Utility Needs OK To Upgrade Lines

Public Service of New Mexico is proposing three options to upgrade existing power lines on federal land southwest of Santa Fe.

Each option would provide Santa Fe and Las Vegas, N.M., with additional electrical power, which could be needed as early as next year. According to PNM, each proposal it has submitted to the Bureau of Land Management for review and approval would upgrade existing power lines near Buckman Road with minimal visual and environmental impacts.

The company estimates each proposal will cost between $10 and $12 million, and it will be up to the BLM to determine if the power company can move forward with any of the alternatives. The BLM will hold its first public meeting regarding the proposals next week. …
