Group Protesting TerraNova Test.(Final)

A group of parents and teachers has organized against standardized TerraNova testing, saying the resulting high-stakes environment hurts schools.

"TerraNova is used for nothing," Zia Elementary teacher David Wilson said during a recent meeting. "It's good for nothing. We get it at the end of school."

Results of the TerraNova exam, given each spring to students in third through ninth grade, are to be made public by Albuquerque Public Schools on Monday.

The group, which calls itself East Campus Advocates for Authentic Assessment, has grown by word of mouth. About a dozen teachers and some parents from Monte Vista, Montezuma and Zia elementary schools in the university area are meeting after school hours to talk about the tests. …
