Mother Nature gets her due at Herbfest.(Final)

Although it's billed as Herbfest 2003, the Rio Grande Nature Center's 16th annual tribute to Mother Nature is more than just a chance to learn how to grow herbs.

"It's about education and awareness," said Julia Zurn, president of the Friends of the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park. The Friends is the volunteer organization that supports the center.

"There's a lot of attention paid to animals and we do two festivals based on animals," she said. "We also need to try and protect the environment, because without plants there would be no animals."

The Herbfest is Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

Among the activities will be guided bird and nature walks on the half hour, several lectures, and plenty of things to keep the children busy. …
