Not Your Parents' School Cafeteria.(Mountain View)

The term "school cafeteria" used to conjure up images of mystery meat, metal trays and lunch ladies with hair nets.

But things have changed in the school food service industry over the past 20 years, as a tour of any of the Moriarty Municipal Schools cafeterias proves.

Metal trays are no longer used, the mystery meat has been replaced by appealing and varied menus, and lunch workers are dedicated food service employees, said Gene Roblyer, director of food services for the Moriarty district.

"A lot has changed since these kids' parents ate school lunches," Roblyer said during a recent lunch hour at Edgewood Middle School. …
