Hector Barreto Visits Chamber

U.S. Small Business Administration Director Hector Barreto endorsed President Bush's tax-cut plan to 125 members of the Hispano Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday and said it could mean more than 5,000 new jobs in New Mexico.

"Even though the president is very focused on international events and homeland security, he is also very focused on economic security," Barreto said during the chamber's business exchange luncheon at Sadie's Mexican Restaurant in Albuquerque.

Independent economists who evaluated the plan on a state-by-state basis have concluded it could benefit as many as 100,000 small businesses in New Mexico and conservative estimates show 5,500 new jobs could be created, he told the Journal. …
