Judge Rebuked Over Residency.(Final)

SANTA FE The New Mexico Supreme Court has formally reprimanded Municipal Court Judge Frances Gallegos for failing to reside within Santa Fe city limits for a period of about two years since taking office.

City law requires the municipal judge to live in Santa Fe, but "because of personal and financial reasons" Gallegos failed to do so between winter 2000 and November 2002, according to a statement she released Monday.

Since November 002, Gallegos has "resumed a continuous and significant physical presence" at her city home.

According to the notice, Felipe Cabeza de Vaca complained to authorities that Gallegos lived outside the city, contrary to law and the Canons of the Code of Judicial Conduct. …
