Work on Bigger Animal Shelter Begins.(West Side Journal)

Construction is under way on a new building at the Rio Rancho animal shelter.

The structure will replace the trailer that the facility's office space is currently housed in at the intersection of Northern and Loma Colorado, said Michael Baker, DPS director.

"The new building will have office space, a cattery, an adoption area and a veterinary area with a surgery room," Baker said.

The new facility, which cost $450,000, is being built in front of the current structure and is scheduled for completion in six months, Baker said.

The shelter will contain office space for 10 people and provide a base for animal control officers in the field to file their reports from, Baker said. …
