625 People Take Advantage Of Relaunched State Program

Rick Chavez drove from his home in Taos Monday morning, parked in Espanola and made the final trip to work in Santa Fe in a bus as part of the state Highway and Transportation Department's relaunch of its park-and-ride service.

As the department deputy secretary of transportation, planning and design, Chavez said it was natural for him to take advantage of the program the agency will offer for the next 18 months as major road work is done on U.S. 84/285 between Santa Fe and Pojoaque.

The only hitch Chavez said he experienced on his bus ride: a can of soda exploded.

"It was a little sticky, literally," he said.

The experience will not deter Chavez from using the bus service on days his work schedule does not require him to travel once he arrives in Santa Fe.

"I will definitely take advantage of it," Chavez said. …
