Singers Award 10 Scholarships.(Final)

Ten Albuquerque Public Schools students on Monday were named recipients of scholarships from the Latino music superstars Sparx and Lorenzo Antonio.

The $1,000 scholarships are renewable for up to four years. They are administered by the APS Foundation, which raises money to support APS programs and instruction, and ENLACE, or Engaging Latino Communities in Education.

Money for the scholarships came from a benefit concert last fall by Sparx and Lorenzo Antonio, graduates of Highland High School.

A second benefit concert is scheduled for Sept. 28 at the Sandia Amphitheater.

Students awarded through the APS Foundation were Anna Marie Cisneros of New Futures School, who plans to major in nursing at Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institute; Erica Gallegos of Valley High School, psychology at University of New Mexico; Raquel Guerrero of Rio Grande High School, graphic design at UNM; Brandon Schoen of La Cueva High, business at UNM; and Paul Tafoya of Sierra Alternative High School, pathology at UNM. …
