New Mexicans urged to pressure Congress into passing tax-cut plan

BERNALILLO President Bush, fresh from a private weekend in Santa Fe, fired up his tax-cut and job-growth tour here Monday, urging New Mexicans to raise their voices and pressure Congress to agree.

"When you raise your voices, the people in Washington tend to listen," the grinning president told an enthusiastic crowd of 2,000 to 3,000 people at a New Mexico-owned small business, MCT Industries Inc., with work sites here and in Albuquerque.

"You can help them (Congress) make the right decision," Bush said. "Join me in raising your voices to make sure that Congress enacts an economic stimulus plan big enough to help people who are looking for work."

Flush from military successes in Iraq, Bush turned his attention to the economy last week, launching a campaign to bolster public support for his tax-cut plan with a stop in Little Rock, Ark.

He resumed the tour here Monday and seemed to warm to the receptive, invitation-only crowd. …
