Furniture repair specialist William McBride has had tools in his hands for as long as he can remember.

He already owned a set of tools when he received a real hatchet on his fourth birthday. He was handling a chain saw by age 8. During his pre-teen years in Quemado and his teenage years in Albuquerque he built bicycles, bookshelves and boats.

"All these experiences taught me how to problem solve," he explains at his Santa Fe-area shop, which had served as a barracks at Kirtland Air Force Base during World War II. "I continue to use problem solving techniques in my furniture repair business on a daily basis. …
