Cemetery Makes Peaceful Neighbor.(Journal North)

The sound of passing traffic on N.M. 68 makes more noise than any of Luis and Julia Montoya's neighbors.

The Montoyas live adjacent to a cemetery on a sunny, southside slope at the foot of a prominent bluff in the Embudo Valley. You can't miss the bluff, its towering red sandstone carved by wind and water into something that resembles a massive pipe organ. Approaching it from Taos, it looks like some massive beast crouched dead center in the high end of the valley.

On its south crest, two rugged crosses of wood are planted. It couldn't have been easy getting either of them up there, especially the highest one. …
