Southern California likely has more punk bands per capita than pretty much anywhere on Earth. That's just an educated guess, but according to Riley Breckenridge of Irvine foursome Thrice, getting notice in the fertile SoCal music scene is anything but easy.

"Because there's so many bands (in the area) I think it's hard to make a name for yourself," Breckenridge said from Grand Rapids, Mich., before an opening set for The Used. "It's a really strong music scene, so it's easy for a band to get out there and play in front of people, but getting noticed out of the hundreds of other bands that are trying to do the same thing you are is where it gets difficult. …
