Best-selling author Richard Florida and former Austin Mayor Kirk Watson will visit Albuquerque in coming months for events celebrating the city's ranking as one of the most creative in the country.

Synapse, a newly launched informal network of people who embrace technology and the arts, is organizing the visits.

The events capitalize on Albuquerque's ranking as first in creativity among medium-sized cities as noted in Florida's best-selling book, "The Rise of the Creative Class: and How It's Transforming Work." Albuquerque also made the top 10 list of all cities in Florida's Creativity Index.

Florida, professor of regional economic development at Carnegie Mellon University, considers creativity an important measure of a city's viability in the New Economy. …
