Colors and curved lines are at the heart of Karin Davie's latest series, "Pushed, Pulled, Depleted and Duplicated." Tight, whiplashlike curves billow and bulge throughout the canvas.

"I view the edge of the canvas like the edge of a stage," she explains from New York City. "I feel like my images never quite fit inside the canvas. Color creates movement, and that movement is a dynamic relationship between the image and the edge of the canvas."

Davie has created three new paintings for an exhibition of six large-scale paintings that opened at SITE Santa Fe in April. Before she picked up a brush to begin these works she set aside weeks for drawing preliminary sketches. …
