* Wiener dogs raced for a good cause to raise money for the Humane Association

Number 7 proved to be lucky at the Downs at Albuquerque on Saturday.

Hobbes, the 4-year-old blue dapple dachshund who hails from Rio Rancho and who sported the lucky number, sprinted near to the ground and first across the finish line in the championship run of the ninth annual Wiener Dog Dash.

Hobbes' championship form appears to be all natural.

Karen Thomas, owner of Hobbes, said she "never trained her" to run and did not use lures for coaxing.

"Everybody who was out here had a good time," said Michael Lazarus, the "director of wiener dog racing" who also serves as the director of marketing for the Downs at Albuquerque. …
