* Commissioner states he can't support unification plan unless it saves money immediately

Bernalillo County Commissioner Michael Brasher says he can't support the charter being written for the unification of the county and Albuquerque governments unless it will save money.

So far, it doesn't appear it will, Brasher told the East Mountain Chamber of Commerce.

"Some of what I've heard is that the unification may not save money for five or 10 years," Brasher said recently at the chamber's monthly luncheon. "My view is it's better to save money now."

The Unification Charter Commission is in the midst of writing a charter that would combine the governments. …
