Changing Image Is Among Priorities

Chuck Jackson knows auto racing, but he's still learning how to promote the sport in Albuquerque.

Jackson is the owner, operator, head maintenance man, publicist, director of marketing and chief parking attendant at Duke City Raceway.

He took over the struggling dirt oval off South Broadway two years ago. Now, he's entering his third season of trying to reverse an image that has resisted change.

''We want people to know we're not a bunch of rednecks and trailer trash who get drunk and fight," Jackson says. "This is a family deal. I've been tickled with the number of kids we're seeing on Saturday nights. …
