Despite hot, windy and dusty conditions at the University of New Mexico track stadium, three records were set Friday in the Class 1A and 2A girls track-and-field championships.

Two of the records were established in the pole vault. Magdalena's Kelly Armstrong upset House's Haily Lee in the Class 1A event with a 9-foot clearance, while Cimarron's Casey Carlisle went 9-6 to knock off Loving's Eileen Onsurez in Class 2A.

"I was nervous, but then I got pumped and just wanted to get it," said Armstrong, who set the record on her last attempt at the height. …
