Thai Survives Wind In Opening Round

ISLETA PUEBLO On a brutally windy day that sent plastic chairs flying, hats whisked away and scores soaring, Thailand's Russy Gulyanamitta stood alone in her mastery of the Isleta Eagle Golf Course on Friday.

Gulyanamitta, one of the day's first players to tee off, shot a 3-under 69 for the first-round lead at the 54-hole Isleta Futures Golf Classic. The $95,000 event continues today and concludes Sunday.

"One of the reasons I left Thailand was to experience different climates, not just hot and humid," said Gulyanamitta, 27. "But this is extreme."
