Takes Aim At State 4A Crown

As Marcus Molina sits and reflects, it probably has not escaped his attention that exactly one year has passed since a 36-inch putt changed the course of last season's Class 4A state golf tournament.

St. Pius' Molina stood over a harmless-looking 3-footer for par on the 18th green at Belen's Tierra del Sol Country Club, although he couldn't possibly know the implications, that by making it he would eventually earn entry into a playoff.

As it was, Molina pulled the putt, bogeyed the 18th and lost the tournament by a shot to Artesia's Adam Plake, who parred the hole when he arrived a bit later.

That miss has been ingrained in Molina's head for the last 365 days, but he's ready to pocket that memory for good as he readies himself for this year's state tournament Monday and Tuesday, again at Tierra del Sol. …
