No one need remind Capital softball coach Bob Chavez about the importance of pitching in the postseason.

During the Jaguars' run to the Class 4A playoffs in 2001 Capital's most successful season ever in softball Chavez's daughter, Leandra, allowed just three hits and one walk against Silver, only to lose a 2-0 decision in the final outing of her prep career.

"There's no doubt, pitching is big," the coach said. "But we feel we have two legitimate pitchers who can do the job for us. We have to feel good about that."

Those hurlers, eighth-grader Fallon Crespin and junior Kiara Tena, tossed back-to-back no-hitters late in the district season to get the Jaguars into the playoffs. …
