Plan To Fund Buses Criticized.(Journal North)

A Santa Fe city councilor's plan to take money that could be used for tourism marketing and use it instead for the city bus system has raised concern from at least one hotel manager in town.

Randy Randall, executive director of the El Dorado Hotel in Santa Fe, said City Councilor David Coss' plan to spend $120,000 this coming budget year on city bus system expenses, while noble, could cost the city's tourism economy.

The city Finance Committee pushed Coss' plan forward this past week to City Council for its discussion.

Essentially, the money, to come from the city Convention and Visitor's Bureau budget, would fund upgrades to the Santa Fe Trails bus system, such as improved bus stops for disabled persons, better-quality bus stop benches and various other passenger amenities, said City Councilor Karen Heldmeyer. …
