Public Works Employees Speak Out Against Boss.(Final)

About 100 employees of the city Public Works Department marched around City Hall on Wednesday to protest the department's director, Ted Asbury.

The employees said vacant jobs have gone unfilled while the city hires private companies to do more of the department's work. They also said they have little money for equipment and employees aren't getting the proper training and are being "micro-managed" by top directors in the department.

"Hey! Ho! Ted's got to go," the employees chanted.

Carlos Torres, an employee in the water department, said some contractors working on water lines aren't state-certified.

"The quality of work they do is not half as good as the city employees," Torres said. …
