New Mexico Parents Sound Off About What Subjects Should Be Taught in Their Kids' Sex Ed Classes

Most New Mexico parents want their children to know about condoms, but they don't want schools to demonstrate how they are used, according to a survey of parents' attitudes toward sex education.

When asked to rate their approval of teaching adolescents about condoms and other contraceptives, 61 percent approved, 24 percent disapproved and 14 percent were neutral.

But when asked whether they would approve or disapprove of having their middle school children asked "to unroll a condom and practice putting it on another person's (his or her) fingers, a banana, or wooden model of a penis," 73 percent said they disapproved, 15 percent approved and the rest were neutral. …
