Board President Wants Him To Stay

ESPANOLA The president of the Espanola Board of Education wants to keep the superintendent from taking another job as the school board continues to deal with possible job cuts and a budget deficit.

Board President Leroy Salazar's support is key for Superintendent Pancho Guardiola, whose contract extension has been debated by school leaders. Guardiola confirmed last week that he has applied for the superintendent's job with the Cuba Independent School District.

"Mr. Guardiola and I are scheduled for some serious discussions concerning that issue," Salazar said.

Also Wednesday, the board grappled with 45 job cuts for next school year. …
