Liver Damage Cited As Possible Cause

The attorney for a man who goes on trial next week for his wife's homicide has raised the issue of whether the woman's death might have been caused by liver damage and not blunt trauma.

Dan Marlowe, the attorney for Anthony Romero, 31, has asked Dr. Rebecca Irvine of the state Office of the Medical Investigator whether Jessica Romero de Herrera's death "wasn't attributable to hepatic steatosis," or liver damage, according to court records.

Romero is accused of killing his estranged wife in December 2001, at a time when he was under house arrest and under a court order to stay away from her. …
