The future of Casa San Ysidro seemed dim. Without enough funds to continue operating and a closure date on the horizon, hopes were starting to fade. But a collaborative effort to keep this unique museum open is now showing progress.

Not only does it appear that the necessary operating funds for the Corrales landmark will be collected, but this year's funding crunch also has fueled long-term thinking on the future of the site and its one-of-a-kind collection of Spanish Colonial artifacts.

Albuquerque Mayor Martin Chavez publicly floated a plan last month to move the collection and three adjacent historic buildings to a period farm being built at the Rio Grande Botanic Garden. …
