From the If-You-Can't-Beat-'Em, Join-'Em Department comes news that U.S. college basketball has taken steps to adopt the international game's 3-point distance of 20 feet, 6 1/4 inches, as well as its wider, trapezoidal lane.

Fine. Now, if U.S. basketball, an embarrassed sixth-place finisher in last year's World Championships, can just get the horses back into the barn.

On Monday, the NCAA Men's Basketball Rules Committee voted unanimously to recommend the above changes effective next season. The women's committee voted to recommend use of the international 3-point arc and to experiment with the trapezoidal lane.

The rules committee's recommendations, according to an NCAA rules release, were made in consultation with experts on international basketball. …
