Trial Starts For Aspiring Rapper

An aspiring Albuquerque rapper standing trial on drug charges often used music lingo as code for his illegal dealings, according to prosecutors in the case.

Former Albuquerque music studio owner Darrold Morris brokered numerous drug deals in New Mexico, Arizona and Georgia for a multi-member organization called "The Family," prosecutors say.

The defense says Morris is a rapper and an actor, and that associates are testifying against him because of pressure and the promise of leniency by the prosecution.

Morris, 36, whose trial began Tuesday in Bernalillo County District Court, is charged with 17 separate counts stemming from incidents in 2000. …
