Fire in Preserve Scorched 33 Acres

SANTA FE Forest Service officials predict a few more days of mop-up operations before firefighters gain full control over the Cajete Fire that has so far burned about 33 acres in the Valles Caldera National Preserve.

A fire is considered controlled when all the hot-spots and smoldering material have cooled to the point they are no longer a threat to flare up and cross the fire line encircling it.

By late Sunday afternoon, Forest Service officials said the fire had been contained by a fire line dug by more than 100 firefighters, who were part of four hand crews and three engine crews. …
