Science Museum close to opening after many delays

The core of the massive, multi-colored Explora Science Center sits mostly empty for now, but hidden to the rear is a small area filled with creative life.

Part workshop, part laboratory, it's a den for designers a five-member team that is building and testing most of the more than 200 exhibits that will fill 35,000 square feet at the new science and technology museum in Old Town.

"It takes, nationally, an average of two to three years to complete development of exhibits like this," said Paul Tatter, museum executive director. "We're anticipating completing this development by the end of the year, and we're working hard to achieve that."

Years in the making completion dates have steadily been pushed back since 1995 the new home of the Explora Science Center and Children's Museum of Albuquerque now appears to be months from opening. …
