Softball Team Rises Out of MWC Cellar.(Final)

A strong finish to the Mountain West Conference season propelled the University of New Mexico softball team out of the cellar and into fifth place.

The Lobos (24-35, 7-13 MWC) won three straight games this week, splitting a doubleheader with conference champion San Diego State on Sunday at home after sweeping a pair from UNLV on Friday.

UNM got a first-inning home run from Iraina Ogas, and Stephanie Kennedy's fifth-inning triple brought home the winning run, giving the Lobos' Amy Dumas a 2-1 victory in the opener Sunday.

In the second game, the Aztecs (35-17, 11-3) scored twice in the first inning and never trailed in winning 4-2. …
