My idea of closeness isn't sharing money but my husband's was. And so we did.

"I want to feel close to you," my husband said.I smiled, envisioning a weekend a deux at the hot springs. But just as my imagination was providing me with a romantic soak I was brought back down to earth.

"I think we should open a joint checking account," he said.

I was stunned. We'd been married five years, and I thought we were close! As far as I was concerned, our fiscal system was working. Although we were a blended family, our assets weren't merged.
