Cibola, Rio Rancho Win To Set Up Showdown.(West Side Journal)

One-Game Playoff Happens Tuesday

Cibola and Rio Rancho have played some important baseball games in the last six years, but never have the two met with the stakes higher than they will be Tuesday.

The Cougars and Rams recorded wins in their regular-season finales Friday, setting up a dramatic one-game playoff for second place in District 1-5A at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Cibola.

The Rams (15-9) scored three runs in the top of the eighth to defeat West Mesa 7-5.

Nearby at Rio Grande, the Cougars (21-4) scored early and often to double up the Ravens 14-7.

Now, the two rivals meet to decide which team advances to the Class 5A regionals to play, and which one advances to the regionals to watch.

"There's definitely going to be some added emotion, some added pressure," Cibola senior shortstop Tim Grady said. "We all like the way it came down in the end, because we hold our future in our hands. …
