Food Permits Free For Fund-Raisers

Schools outside Albuquerque's city limits aren't subject to the same fees that city schools must pay for snack bars or popcorn sales.

Bernalillo County's Environmental Health Department said the schools in its jurisdiction those that aren't in Albuquerque are considered to be non-profit entities and that extends to school organizations as well, such as the PTA.

The county requires permits but doesn't charge for them.

"We don't charge a fee for temporary food-serving events, or even for the schools for their cafeterias," said George Schroeder, of the environmental health department. …
