Developer will pay ranchers annually for each electricity-generating tower on their land

New Mexico's first major wind farm will begin generating electricity by the end of July, Public Service Company of New Mexico said Friday.

Wind farm developer FPL Energy LLC has completed construction of eight of the 136 planned wind towers that will generate 204-megawatts of electricity enough to supply 94,000 homes. PNM will buy the electricity.

FPL expects construction of the $200 million wind farm near House, about 30 miles south of Tucumcari, to be complete by July 1.

Work to connect the wind farm's output to PNM's nearby transmission line will take a further three to four weeks, PNM said. …
