La Cueva's Boys Get Early Lead

A couple of expected wins and a surprise kept the Sandia girls at the top of the heap at the Farmers City Tennis Championships on Thursday.

At Albuquerque Academy, sisters Nina and Anna Surviladze picked up singles wins, while the doubles team of Leda McDaniel and MacKenzie Bingham notched an upset to help keep the Matadors in the points lead.

With semifinals today and finals Saturday, Sandia leads the girls standings with 15 points, followed by St. Pius with 13 and Del Norte with nine.

The boys points leader is La Cueva with 13 points, while Academy and Sandia are tied with 10 each. …
