As expected, Boeing laid to rest the company's proposed near-supersonic transport, at least for the foreseeable future. Speaking to media last Dec. 20, Commercial Airplanes President Alan Mulally said Boeing "will continue to look at speed" but will put the "vast majority" of its resources toward developing a conventional-looking "middle-of-the-marker" aircraft sized between the proposed 205-seat 737-900X and the 777 and offering substantial efficiency improvements over current models. …
