Judge orders pay cut for UA machinists. (News Briefs).(Brief Article)

US Bankruptcy Judge Eugene Wedoff on Jan. 10 approved United Airlines' request to impose an interim 13% pay cur on 38,000 employees represented by the International Assn. of Machinists. The court actually imposed a 14% wage reduction because UA requested that the pay cut be made retroactive to Jan. 1. With the ruling, the carrier now will implement reductions for all of its unionized workers in a move it said will save $70 million a month and enable it to meet a mid-Feb. deadline for cost cuts required by its DIP agreements.

UA's pilot and flight attendant unions already had agreed to interim pay cuts ranging from 29% for the pilots to 9% for the flight attendants. …
