Swiss International Air Lines, on the heels of a "less than wholly satisfactory" third-quarter net loss of Sfr135 million ($93 million), announced a series of cost-saving measures intended to add Sfr400 million to the 2003 bottom line. The steps include elimination of 300 positions, mainly through attrition, as well as grounding eight aircraft and ceasing service on unspecified routes. Aircraft to be removed from scheduled service include one MD-11, one A320 and three 50-seat regional aircraft. Additionally, swiss will replace seven MD-80s used on charter services with four A320s. …
