Delta low-fare unit to use 757s. (News Briefs).

Delta Air Lines' much-talked-about low-fare unit takes to the skies early this year, offering point-to-point service with a fleet of up to 36 757s configured for 199 passengers in all-economy searing by year end. Describing the effort as intended to "meet the burgeoning competition from low-fare earners," Delta said the subsidiary will begin in Northeast-Florida markets, eventually expanding to other areas including possible transcontinental flying.

Unit costs will be "approximately 20%" below those of mainline 757s. Delta is aiming for utilization of 13.2 hr. …
