In a move intended to conserve cash as the due dates for its massive debt repayments loom closer, UAL Corp., parent of United Airlines, suspended certain preferred dividend and interest payments as permitted under the debt and equity instruments. The company said the actions will defer "approximately $5 million this quarter." UA has $875 million of debt maturities due in the fourth quarter, including $350 million due Nov. 17.

UA and the labor coalition representing its unionized employees continue to talk about the shape and size of concessions sought by the airline. …
