Mesaba furloughs 50 pilots. (Regional News).(Brief Article)

Mesaba Airlines is furloughing 50 pilots and eliminating two flight crew bases in an effort to reduce costs. "We regret the need to make these decisions but they are necessary given the current economic realities of the airline industry," said CEO and VP-Flight Operations John Spanjers.

Mesaba operates a fleet of 69 Avro RJ-85s and Saab 340s as a Northwest Airlink carrier. It has been stymied in its efforts to upgrade its fleet with CRJs largely because it has not reached a contract agreement with its pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilots Assn. …
