Lufthansa Group reported a net loss of [euro]27 million ($26.5 million) for the first half ended June 30, improved from a net loss of [euro]43 million last year, and the company predicted it will achieve a full-year operating result of "a least" [euro]500 million.

Total operating revenue for the first half was [euro]8.63 billion, a 5.2% increase. Operating expenses grew just 3% to [euro]8.21 billion owing to cost cuts in "all business segments." The result was a [euro]415 million operating profit, up 8 1.2% over 2001. "Our capacity and cost management measures plus the 'D-Check' program paved the way for this success and proved to be the right approach," said Chairman Jurgen Weber. …
