ASPA hails training program

Nadi, Fiji--An unusual regional airline training program conceived by the Association of South Pacific Airlines (ASPA) is producing excellent results. Funded by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and executed by ICAO using instructors supplied by IATA, it has enabled about 400 employees of ASPA member airlines to attend specialized training courses over the past three years.

The initiation and implementation of the training program have been some of the major achievements of ASPA, which was established in 1979 but did not really start producing meaningful results until a full-time secretary-general in the person of former Air Pacific executive George Faktaufon was appointed in 1986.

He and ICAO adviser Asghar Shah share an office in the terminal building of Nadi International Airport. …
