Hopes for a bailout of insolvent Fairchild Domier were dealt potentially fatal blows when Bombardier and Alenia separately said they were not interested in raking over the German-American aircraft maker or its flagship 728/928 regional jet program.

"That's the end of it for us," Bombardier VP-Communications Dominique Dionne told ATW "We have clearly demonstrated in our review that these programs would not produce the returns that are in line with Bombardier criteria. So we are walking away." Bombardier began its review last May, stirring speculation that the Canadian manufacturer would salvage at least a part of the PD aircraft manufacturing program. …
