Summer this year in the green fields of southwest England--Farnborough, be precise--is shaping up to be a time for consideration of future trends rather than a mad dash in this direction or that. Much of the airline industry is trying to figure our how to proceed in this new environment in which high fares may be forever a thing of the past and new security considerations rule daily operations. And along the way, carriers want to know how to use the new capacity already in the pipeline while struggling to keep their fiscal heads above water.
