Carty: Airlines cannot await recovery. (News Briefs).(Brief Article)

American Airlines Chairman and CEO Don Carty believes that the crisis facing the US airline industry "is much more than a cyclical problem, and thus we need to rake a long, hard look at literally everything we do... to see if they still make sense in the new reality." At the Merrill Lynch Global Transportation Conference in New York last month, the head of the world's largest airline warned that the industry will not return to financial health by "passively waiting for events or circumstances to show us the way." As a result, American is conducting a top-to-bottom review of "every aspect of our business... nothing is sacred," including the hub-and-spoke system and the pricing regime. …
