An End to 'Odds' (sort of).

Progress, say some philosophers, is evolution from the complex to the simple. What an elegant, beautiful way to view the world. And we might add, what a complete crock. Case in point, the airline industry.

Next month is the 35th anniversary of Air Transport World's founding in 1964. With the possible exception of the regrettable loss of the Civil Aeronautics Board's perpetual route cases--an endless source of amusement--the industry decidedly has not gone toward the simple, but rather, has become increasingly complex.

For an institution such as ATW, predicated on the revelation and explanation of developments, this growing complexity is a boon. The demand for what we do here is growing daily, yet, never is there sufficient room in the magazine to tackle all of the serious issues of the day. …
